Abstract
Considering the importance and high prevalence of type 2 diabetes, it is very necessary and important to pay attention to this disease and its complications. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of borage plant extract on liver enzymes in people with type 2 diabetes. This study was conducted as a clinical trial. In this study, 81 people with type 2 diabetes were randomly divided into two study groups and a control group. After consuming 25 drops of borage plant extract (containing about 1.5 mg of polyphenols per 100 ml of extract, calculated on the basis of epigallocatechin gallate) in combination with 125 ml of water after lunch and dinner for 1 week, the anthropometric indices and the amount of Hba1c in both groups were evaluated before and after the intervention, and the data were analyzed using SPSS software. The comparison between the study group and the control group showed that in the case group (which were treated with the extract), the amount of liver enzymes after the intervention was lower than the control group (p-value < 0.05).
